Solunar Forecast Engine
Know when deer are most likely to move — before you leave camp.
The solunar theory suggests that fish and game activity is influenced by the position of the sun and moon. BKM Outdoors integrates solunar data with weather conditions to give you a daily hunt forecast — including major/minor feeding windows, moon phase, barometric pressure, and an overall day rating from Prime to Slow.
How It Works
The Hunt Forecast card appears on your Dashboard automatically.
It shows today's sunrise/sunset, major/minor feeding windows, and moon phase.
Barometric pressure is pulled from OpenWeather (requires API key).
The day rating combines moon proximity to new/full with weather conditions.
Plan your sits around major feeding windows for highest odds.
Key Capabilities
Major & Minor Windows
Two major (~2hr) and two minor (~1hr) feeding windows per day based on moon transit and opposition.
Moon Phase Tracking
Current moon phase with emoji, illumination percentage, and moonrise/moonset times.
Barometric Pressure
Converted from hPa to inHg for US hunters. Rising/falling pressure is a key deer movement indicator.
Day Rating
Prime (new/full moon), Good, Average, or Slow — based on moon phase and weather alignment.
Real-World Use Cases
Plan morning sits around major feeding windows
Identify Prime days weeks in advance for PTO planning
Correlate barometric pressure drops with deer movement
Compare forecast data with your hunt journal entries
Why BKM Does This Better
Spartan Forge and DeerCast charge $99-150/yr for solunar data. BKM provides it at half the cost using open APIs — and integrates it directly with your hunt journal and dashboard.
